Your EFI supplies all the fuel to the engine. It's easy to think that if you just fill your fuel tank that you will be able to drive your car. The problem with this is that if you have something that's blocking your fuel from getting to your engine you are not going to be able to drive your car. It's as simple as that. The problem could be a variety of things. Perhaps your fuel pump isn't pumping the fuel to even get to the injectors in an efficient manner. Also if there are problems in your fuel lines then there are going to be problems with supplying fuel to the engine.
Another primary function of the EFI is calculating how much fuel is required to get the engine to run properly. If your airflow sensors are not functioning correctly you may not be supplying enough fuel to your engine. If you are sending too much fuel to the engine you could very easily flood the engine and that's something no one wants to deal with. This could lead to a higher than necessary fuel consumption as well.
