Safety Certificates in Brisbane

In Queensland you must always display a safety certificate on any registered light vehicle from the moment you offer the vehicle for sale. A safety certificate is also required for unregistered 2nd hand and registered interstate vehicles as part of the Queensland pre-registration process although some exemptions apply.

Some exemptions are when the vehicle is unregistered or being traded to, or between, licensed motor dealers. Vehicles can still be sold for parts or restoration without a safety certificate, but they must be de-registered before being offered for sale.

Safety certificates must be displayed openly and in a clearly visible position for example:

• motorbike - on the front forks or guard
• car - in the car windscreen or window
• trailer -on the draw-bar.
